Data Residency

Data residency refers to controlling the specific geographic location where an organization's data is stored and processed — often required by regional privacy law or a customer's own regulatory or contractual obligations.

Different jurisdictions impose different rules on where certain categories of data may be stored or processed — some regulations effectively require that data about residents of a region stay within that region, or that specific sensitive categories never leave a particular legal jurisdiction. For a global product with customers everywhere, "our servers are in one place" quickly becomes a real procurement blocker for regulated customers in other regions.

Data residency as a product feature means giving a customer a real choice — not just a claim — about which region their organization's data lives in, so a European customer's data can stay within EU infrastructure, or an Australian customer's data can stay within Australia, matching their specific regulatory obligations rather than a single default region chosen for the vendor's convenience.

It's frequently a prerequisite for a specific class of enterprise and government deals, well before any other feature comparison happens — a vendor without a credible residency story is often disqualified from consideration for regulated workloads regardless of anything else the product does.

How aanty does it

Data Residency, in the product

Aanty offers data-residency options as part of the Business tier's compliance suite, alongside a self-hosted/BYOC edition for customers whose residency requirements go beyond what a regional SaaS option covers — the same kernel, deployed where a customer's obligations require it.
